Ladies' Chukkas
Ladies' polo at Ascot Park continued to go from strength to strength again
during the summer. With not one single Wednesday evening or Thursday morning being cancelled due to the fantastic summer weather, dedicated chukkas took place twice weekly followed by a get together in the marquee or Clubhouse. It has been terrific to have so many girls attending:
Maria-Ines Lee,
Mia Randall-Coath,
Wendy Ross, Bev Prior,
Diana Abuzaid,
Mandy Beitner,
Nikki Kemp, Anita Mitchell,
Joanna Dover,
Kirsty Turner. The ranks of the faithful were swelled by
Maxine Betteridge and
Margaret Butler, two new players who progressed impressively throughout the season by dint of hard work, and
Ingrid Brady,
Chon Donnoly, Vicky Woodhead and
Sarah O'Connell.
Chukkas were umpired by an assortment of highly experienced players including
Peter Grace,
Joe Byrne and Rod Gutridge who also made valuable contributions on the instructional side.
The period in the run up to the Women's Nationals was particularly popular when many girls came
from other clubs including Farida Rosso and
Rafaella Agosti
Thanks must go to Polo Manager Caroline Stern who has had the unenviable job of controlling activities on the ground and to Yard Manager,
Bev Prior, who unceasingly manages to match ponies to riders given the many awkward requests, likes, dislikes and strange foibles some of us have!!
At other points in the season the emphasis inevitably has been on the social aspects of the game with several husbands' hearts sinking whenever they hear the words "I'll just be having a quick drink after ladies' chukkas!!"
Chukkas continue during the winter on Thursday mornings at 10.30 with all
adjourning to the Clubhouse afterwards. Just call the office to book in
on +44 (0) 1276 858545.
