Last Weekend’s Polo –
The Westcroft Park Plate (5-6 March)
Pink Power/ Norton Rose
emerged victorious following a three-team round robin last
Saturday 5th March. The team consisted of Fiona
Reilly at number 1, Mandie Rondel and Clare Warrender
alternating in the number 2 position and Roddy Matthews at
back.
Pink
Power/Norton Rose appeared to have as many sets of team
shirts as names, and took to the arena wearing white for one
two chukka match and black and red for the next. The
possibility of appearing in the third alternative strip was
vetoed by the team professional, who deemed bright pink
unflattering to his complexion.
Needmore
Farms’ Alex Jacob, Mike Clark and Howard Hipwood fought hard
to win second place. Despite the Dell team’s third place,
their number 1 Ricky Cooper demonstrated some good tactical
play on this his first outing in an HPA fixture.
Photos of
the match were taken by Ingrid Brady, and will shortly be
available to view on our website or at
www.ingridbrady.com/polophotos.
Our final
arena HPA fixture this winter will take place on Saturday
March 12th, commencing at 1.30 pm. Please see
below for team and time information.

Umpire Training 2005
Several
members have expressed an interest in either applying to
take their C Grade Umpire Test or simply in attending some
rules seminars prior to the grass season this year.
Roddy
Matthews and Robert Burke have kindly offered to run such
seminars, and dates for the meetings will be determined once
we have an idea of how many of you would wish to attend.
For any
player of -1 or above wishing to take their C Grade test, we
are currently arranging a date for the HPA Chief Umpire,
Arthur Douglas-Nugent to come to APPC in order to
administrate the actual test. This should be in late April
or early May.
As soon
as we hear back from anyone who is interested, dates for
both the rules meetings and umpire test will be arranged.
