Great Britain win over the crowd at The Royal Show - Sponsored by Kia Motors

Europe’s largest agricultural show, The Royal Show, saw over 150,000 members of public enter through the gates to support the very best in British agriculture. To add to the splendour of the day Ascot Park Polo Club, in association with Kia Motors wowed the crowds with a fast paced exhibition match every day.

Kia Motors (UK) Limited sponsored Ascot Park Polo Club’s presence at the event giving over 100 members of public each day the opportunity to learn how to play polo and ride a polo pony as well as being able to watch daily exhibition matches between Great Britain and The Rest of The World .

Howard Hipwood in action

Howard Hipwood, shown in action at left, one of England’s iconic players who achieved the highest rating of nine goals for any English player since the war, played alongside other members who have previously represented England.

Each day both teams fought for the title in front of packed grandstands. Day one saw The Rest of The World defeated by one goal but the team soon overturned Great Britain with an extra goal on day two. To add to the excitement the third day saw both teams draw leaving the crowd hanging for the final match on Wednesday. To the delight of the cheering crowd Great Britain won by two goals (7:5) with Howard Hipwood, Robert and James Dundas representing the winning team against Rod Gutridge (SA), Daniel Otamendi (AR) and Dean Marks (NZ) representing The Rest of The World.

Kia Motors and Ascot Park Polo Club were delighted to be at the event supporting British agriculture and representing polo to a large audience base. Victoria Grace, Director, commented: “We were thrilled to be sponsored by Kia Motors for their first year at the Royal Show, giving us the opportunity to represent the wonderful sport of polo at such a prestigious rural event. It is great that both Ascot Park and Kia Motors share the same ambitions of showcasing their talents to a wider audience.”

Exhibiting at the Royal Show is part of Ascot Park’s ongoing initiative to open the world of polo to all and introduce newcomers to the game. Ascot Park plays an integral role in the growth of this sport and continually seeks to find ways of encouraging more newcomers to the world of polo.
