THE JOULES UK NATIONAL WOMEN’S
POLO TOURNAMENT SHOWCASED TOP TALENT IN WOMEN’S POLO WITH WOMEN OF MASS
DESTRUCTION LIVING UP TO THEIR TITLE.
Over 27% of the female polo playing
population came together for the largest and longest running women’s
polo tournament in the world this weekend at Ascot Park Polo Club,
Chobham, Surrey.
Women from around the UK and players
representing the Argentine, German, Dutch and Spanish polo associations
competed against each other for the most sought after title in women’s
polo when 38 teams, 138 women came together.
The Joules UK National Women’s Polo
Tournament, now in its 18th year is the most established women’s polo
event in the British polo calendar. It is a unique event in attracting
all levels of play, across generations of players, including the highest
rated women in polo. Levels ran from -8 to 2 goal polo running across
three grounds over two days.
The standard of polo in each level
increases each year with fast and open polo played across all levels.
Women of Mass Destruction took the
titles of the Joules UK National Women’s Champions when winning the
finals of the 0 to 2 goal level against home team Joules with the final
score five goals to Joules’ two. Hard Riders did just such when they won
the 2nd league of the 0 to 2 goal against Silverwood in a fast and
furious match ending eight goals to five ½. The Polo Angels flew in at
the last minute to win the third league of the 0 to 2 goal against
Gorgeous Girls winning four goals to three.

In the -1 to -2 goal final The Angels
took on www.polo.tv and won 8 goals to 4 ½ taking home the Crème de la
Mer Trophy and the -3 goal finals saw Timbuktu win the Wentworth Golf
Club Plate defeating Pink Power. The Foxhills Country Club Trophy went
to the the -4 goal final winner De Nada who took on home team Ascot Park
with De Nada winning 6 goals to 2.
The -5 to -6 level saw impressive games
played throughout the weekend with eight teams entered in this level.
The final winner of the weekend were Coomb Place wining 7 goals to Divas
4 ½ taking home the Pennyhill Park Spa Trophy. The – 7 to -8 level had
an equally impressive number of teams entered with West Somerset leaving
the overall winner having defeated Hugo’s Hookers winning 8 goals to 5.
Overall the weekend saw a fantastic
display of talent and team spirit and growth. The IWPA are delighted
that the increase in female players in the world of polo has seen
numbers treble in the last three years of women entering this
tournament.

included Patrick Guerrand-Hermes, President Federation of International
Polo, shown right with Joules team members French 2 goal player Caroline
Anier (left) and Ascot Park's Victoria Grace. He has recognized
the increased of women players and has been in discussions with Pippa
Grace, Chairman of the International Women’s Polo Association with
regard to assisting with the international development of women’s polo.
Both the IWPA and Ascot Park Polo Club
would like to thank lifestyle brand Joules Clothing for making it
possible to put on such a remarkable event. It is the third year Joules
has sponsored this major fixture in the British polo calendar and
supplied all teams with a range of bespoke playing shirts and a prize
table boasting unique prizes. Tom Joules supported the event with over
80 guests coming along for the day. Co-sponsors included Carlton Tower
Hotel, Estee Lauder, Foxhills Hotel and Resort, Great Fosters, Hyperion
Group, Pennyhill Park, Smith & Gardner and Wentworth Club.
