Make Polo Your Sport - A Roadmap
for Learning Polo
|
-
We offer
several affordable formats for tuition
so we can provide the right type of coaching for an individual's
level of ability, fitness and athletic sckill
-
We
welcome non-riders
– about 65% of those we teach have never ridden before – and we provide
all the necessary equipment, including specially trained (and
understanding!) ponies.
-
Top class coaching enables even non-riders
to take part in their first chukka within one session.
-
Our
paramount
consideration is safety. So, all the initial coaching takes place in
our all-weather enclosed arena, the largest in Europe, and all our
instructors are registered with the Hurlingham Polo Association
which is the governing body for polo.
-
Therefore, all you need to
enjoy the Sport of Kings is a sense of fun and adventure.
No
membership is required to take part in any of our training
activities listed below.
|
Stage One |
The Discover PoloTM
Lesson
This is the ideal starting point. We take you
through all the basic contents of the game to give you an
all round picture and understanding of the game. This lesson
only needs to be taken once. The course is available privately or in
small groups and comprises:
Polo riding, The polo swing – use of the stick for the four shots, Rules of the game, Stick & ball – practice on ponies,
lesson Chukkas
Depending on your ability it may be necessary to take some private
or group coaching (Stage Three) before entering into Instructional
Chukkas (Stage 2). Please discuss this when making your booking. |
|
Stage Two |
Instructional Arena
Chukkas
Following your Introductory Lesson you can
progress to playing in these entry level chukkas in Europe's
largest all-weather polo arena. There are two aims:
You can book
anything from 1-4 chukkas on a Saturday or Sunday morning at
11:30am depending on just how quickly you want to progress.
|
|
Stage
Three |
The Discover Plus!TM
Lesson
This group lesson is for those who have
completed our Discover Polo Lesson and perhaps some
instructional chukkas and want to spend a morning refreshing
their knowledge of polo rules and theory, and more advanced
polo swing and polo riding.
Starting at 9:30 on Saturday or Sunday, this
1½ hour session features more time on horseback and includes
an instructional chukka. |
|
Stage
Four |
Private & Group Coaching Tuition
This allows your instructor
to identify and discuss your strengths and weaknesses and address
them accordingly. Whether it's stick work or riding, coaching is
essential if the correct techniques are to be developed. Most
clients take a mix of coaching lessons and Instructional (Stage Two)
or Academy Chukkas (Stage Four) which ensure enhancement of both
individual skills and the understanding of team play and rules.
|
|
Stage Five |
Academy Lawn Chukkas
Play the game with other competent players,
under the eye of instructors who will offer advice and
instruction whilst you play. In conjunction with private or
group lessons, these advanced training chukkas played on a
two-thirds size lawn pitch will allow you the excitement of
playing the game whilst rapidly developing your polo
prowess. These chukkas are also available for Ladies Only
during the week. |
|
Stage
Six |
Club Membership and
beyond
Once you have gained the necessary skills and
ability, through stages 1-4, you will then be ready to join
as a full playing member of not just ours but any polo club
around the world. It's then up to you.
Polo is enjoying
rapid growth around the world and you will now have your
passport to join in The King of Games. Arena Polo is played
throughout the winter months so you can join the team at any
time of the year. |
